The lyretail swordtail is a live-bearing freshwater fish, an aquatic variant of the Xiphophorus hellerii, characterized by a lyre-shaped, or "lyretail," tail fin in both sexes due to selective breeding, unlike the standard male swordtail with a prominent lower "sword" extension.  They are typically vibrant, active, requiring a varied omnivorous diet and a freshwater aquarium.
